Pisgah Mountain Trail Races

Dave Herr, 46, of Canaan, Vt., and Amy Lane, 32, of South Deerfield, Mass., successfully defended their titles in the 50K division at the Pisgah Mountain Trail Races.
Showing remarkable consistency, Herr finished in 3 hours, 41 minutes and 52 seconds -- 34 seconds faster than his winning time in 2010. He overcame a challenge from Jim Johnson, 34, of Salem, N.H., who crossed the line just 18 seconds behind Herr. Ben Nephew, 36, of Mansfield, Mass., placed third in 3:45:18.
Lane also improved on her 2010 time, finishing in 4:31:11. Karen Benway, 39, of Warwick, R.I., was a close second in 4:35:05, and Jacquelyn Jackman, 33, of Warwick, R.I., took third in 5:10:35.
Donald Pacher, 39, of Easthampton, Mass., and Suzie Carrier, 52, of North Conway, N.H., were the overall winners in the 25K. Pacher's time of 1:47:15 was more than six minutes faster than runner-up Joe Holland, 49, of Concord, N.H. (1:53:41). Carrier finished in 2:19:38, edging Tara Deeble, 40, of Melrose, Mass. (2:21:07).
